The cost of OEM parts for some cars are just completely crazy, compared to the cost of non OEM, third party parts for the same cars. That said, the quality of the cars must be at least somewhat equitable to the price offered for them. I just can't fathom how third party brake parts can be so cheap -- feels like there's a lot of risk in purchasing them. In any case, especially for a system so important for the car, and for the wellbeing of passengers in the car, am I better off with OEM or non OEM?

I've been watching Pete's Garage on YouTube and the guy is absolutely amazing and very enlightening on the subject. He has at least one video on engine painting but he mentions it in a number of other videos. However, he doesn't really expound on why an engine should be painted. What are the benefits of painting an engine? For example, my Tacoma has an aluminum block and aluminum heads but they are not painted. Why are some other engines painted?

There are a number of different types of active suspension including pneumatic and magnetic , but to my knowledge, in practice, these are all classified as semi-active, since there are other non-active components (e.g. spring and sway bars) that are also part of the vehicle's suspension. It seems to me that if we could have a single actuator at each wheel and omit all of the currently used passive components (and their weight!), that this would be very attractive for some applications in which cost is not the major impediment, such as some racing series and for some very high end sports cars.

More to the point: what's happening with the Curfew XJ-S?

Both have high rev/low torque engines, so they naturally feel like heavy cars when you're not chasing the redline for me.If you stay at the redline though, then they definitely get a shift on don't get me wrong. But my E92 M3 was my daily though, so you aren't spending all that much time at the redline in that situation though, hence the feeling of disappointment. My thoughts exactly. 15mpg for absolutely nothing. Completely unusable redline on the daily co

So I've bought another XJ-S, and this time it's the XJ-S that starred in the recent Sky series 'Curfew', which stars Sean Bean (who drives this car). It got delivered last night after I purchased it at the H&H auction in Buxton on Wednesday - and its already taken a bit of a battering over on the Classics Spotted thread. Obviously the car isn't standard, and amongst the modifications is the addition of a manual gearbox, upgraded suspension (from the brief look I had under the car), a hydraulic handbrake, a tiny race fuel tank, wider arches and wheels and the side exit exhausts. I was a bit cur

The GLE Coupe has a special rung in hell as Mercedes looked at the dire X6 and instead of wincing/laughing decided to copy it. Let''s face it, there is utterly no point in an SUV Coupe. SUVs are supposed to be practical vehicles that can carry people and shed-loads of stuff easily. So why would you have an SUV Coupe. The U stands for "Utility". Killing the luggage space in the name of image is hardly utilitarian.

Throttlebody said: Hang around. Hyundai are bringing back a hot hatch icon, drivers car and sales success. Hybrid, so throttle response will be mega as it has an electric motor. Gonna blow heavy, limited range EV hot hatches out of the water. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/hyundai/i20/369829/n...So it will be heavier than the other one with about the same power as a R53 MCS with a mild tune. Hardly progress is it? Modern tyres and a 20 year old hot hatch will rinse it. Crispy.

Lovely car OP. A mate of a mate used to race a manual XJS in the JEC series until the engine broke a few years ago, and he hasn't managed to get it rebuilt yet. But what a great car!

I absolutely loved the V8 4.8 naturally aspirated engine that was in my old X5 4.8iS, so I definitely have a soft spot for this. Plus I loved that you could get these with a manual too.
