Well the AMG went and the Shark 6 has arrived. It was a better choice for me to be honest, with wanting to go into the dunes (see later on in the post how that went, rookie error) and for putting the kids bikes in etc etc - The long warranty and at the price they are it was a no brainer. So I had never head of this until moving to Dubai a few months back, test drove one and it was quicker than the previous Raptor I trialled so it now had my interest. It has a monstrous Chinese 1.5 powerhouse and dual electric motors. Combined power: 436 hpCombined torque: 650 Nm0-100 km/h: 5.7 secondsTop speed

A little addition to the fleet this weekend in the shape of a 2010 E82 125i. I've got a couple of cars that are at extremes, a Clio that is great for track days but terrible on the road and another BMW that is lovely for road trips but I'm too precious over it to use on track days and it's not really that kind of car for me anyway. I've done a fair few trips in my mates Cayman GT4 over the last 18 months and as you'd expect it does a great job at covering both bases. We've done 5 hour drives in relative comfort and then enjoyed it round a track for 10 hours before driving home again (not all o

A few months ago we arranged my wife’s birthday away weekend, 3 nights in 3 places, Ross On Wye, Barmouth and Llandudno.In 11 years together we have never been away in a none Alfa, apart from the one time in a Mazda 323, clutch went.I have not owned one for 18 months, the itch started recently, could not imagine going away in the Volvo, good as it is.Agreed with a handshake to buy this from a friend today, very early, very original 2.0 twinspark + spares.He is going to clean it, replace the front shocks and brake pads, sleeve on the exhaust as there is a slight blow.Cambelt and bits may be du

For those who have followed my previous MX-5 thread, you may remember that I was considering purchasing a new car for some time. The arrival of my son hadn't forced my hand per-se (we have another family car), but with the MX-5 being a two-seater, it's become such a lonely car. My wife can't come with me on any trips as there's now three of us.It's time to sell, and while I'll be sad to see it go, I'm excited to start another chapter. As regular readers of the CL thread will know, I've fancied one of these. I mentioned it on the barge thread and someone PMed me saying he was moving his on for various reasons. He was only in Basingstoke so not far away at all, thus I thought it's worth a look. It was very clean and tidy and a folder of receipts to rival the CL. We had a drive for about 20 mins and it seemed pretty solid to me. All good, I can mull it over the weekend. The sums all done, I made an we agreed a price.I am making a list of things to do and queries as I will be picking the minds of the regular 129 chaps on here.

My local town has a blanket 20mph within its central area and on all routes in. I avoid it as much as I can now. People drive like zombies.Recently I noticed people are now moving around at barely more than 10/12mph. You can actually overtake within a 20mph zone without officially speeding.

I think this looks (also!) great - the 6N but the elephant in the room for all enthusiasts must be the fact that using nearly any of this capability - can see your vehicle sized by section 59 powers that are now open loop since June this year If you don t know what I am talking about - go and research this before your next hoon in this (Err.. ahem..) The Conti's have been replaced with Bridgestone Turanza 6's all round. They were getting on 6 years old.Though they're not their most sporty offering, I chose these on the MX-5 and was very impressed with them. The flex in the sidewall was a welcome one, and though turn-in may be a little softer, I do prefer the car to be a little more compliant across a road if the suspension is stiff. Also, as I'll be picking up spare wheels for track use, I'd rather my road-going tyres to lean more on the comfort side while still holding up to a spirited drive. re. the refrigerant - If you take the car to Quik-Fit they will empty the system for free (probably best to ring first to check but I've done it on a few cars..). This is actually a requirement if you work on the AC system of a car as the gas is pretty nasty for you and the environment.Once that's done it's pretty simple, just nuts n bolts but do fit a replacement drier though if you're opening the system up.
