The Conti's have been replaced with Bridgestone Turanza 6's all round. They were getting on 6 years old.Though they're not their most sporty offering, I chose these on the MX-5 and was very impressed with them. The flex in the sidewall was a welcome one, and though turn-in may be a little softer, I do prefer the car to be a little more compliant across a road if the suspension is stiff. Also, as I'll be picking up spare wheels for track use, I'd rather my road-going tyres to lean more on the comfort side while still holding up to a spirited drive. I had some time recently to tackle the spare projector headlights that I had purchased. The job was to remove the covers and replace with new ones. The job is a little tedious but not necessarily difficult. The last headlights I split were a pair of Porsche 996/986 lamps, and while I haven't got any guide for the Clio's, the principles are the same.For anyone wanting to do this, be warned: you will damage or deform the outer plastic edge of the lamp. It won't be noticeable when installed, but if you're fussy about keeping the headlamp perfectly untouched, don't do this.This is the state of the lens after sanding and polishing, albeit a lighter pass to see any improvements. The fading and haziness goes deep into the lens, safe to say there's no saving these.Amazon's finest heat gun. An improvement over the FUESYDFKGHBJJSDFGOK.The idea is to heat the edges enough to soften the glue, but not enough to damage the plastic. The plastics can take quite a bit of torture; the glue will give up well before any damage takes place. It takes around 1 minute of gentle passing with a heatgun on a single edge of the lamp to soften the glue enough to pry it open.The trick is to pry it open from the top of the lens. The bottom slots into its groves much deeper than the top. Separate the top, then pull the lens away from the rest of the assembly with some force. It didn't take much to separate the 20 year old glue on the lamp. As expected, the inner assembly is flawless as it's lived under a casing all of its life.This gives me a good chance to compare the lenses.A huge difference. This is the inner part that attaches itself to the inside of the lens.Next up, remove the old glue. This can be done with a sharp stanley knife and a flat blade screwdriver. Cut the glue from the edges of the 'runs', then scrape out with a flat blade. This step was by far the most tedious; expect to spend about 30-40 minutes per lamp.You don't need to remove every spec of glue, only enough for the new lens
