I've had one for nearly three years, replacing a 1990 964 Carrera 2. That was a great car, but I fancied something a bit quicker but wouldn't touch a non turbo car with all the potential engine dramas. I looked at just one, a blue 2004 car with less than 30,000 on the clock and bought it - it was and still is absolutely mint. Even in 2.0 guise, the 306 Cabriolet isn't something you'd describe as 'quick'. With a 1.8 and 112 bhp it's probably a little slow and not very Pistonheads. But I like it for that. It's a car that you take in the scenery with, can waft along with your thoughts. That is of course unless you have a two year old who is gently reminding you on a consistent basis that she 'don't want roof down', then you're maybe not so relaxed and feeling like a bad parent as her hair adopts the windswept look. I started a new job just over 2 months ago which requires 2-3 days a week in the office, I've ended up buying two different cars for the purpose of commuting and long story short both have been a disaster. In my naivety I assumed a fairly cheap, 100k French car would do the trick. Clearly not. So last week I began hunting for something comfortable, capable of good fuel economy, didn't have to be fast but interesting at least. It has been done but I'm a stickler for keeping things original and it isn't really a car for driving quickly in anyway, I don't think. Horses for courses and all that.I had a 205 for many years (my mum actually had 6 back to back when I was a child), sold it during one of the lockdowns, often think about it still. You can't beat that tin can lightness of older French cars. I've got a 20 year old 987 S for when something needs to be taken by the scruff on the neck. That's taxed all year round too so gets a bit more action than this one does.
