They aren't that expensive really, usually about 6-8k. When you consider they are early to mid 80's, they are the same sort of money as their contemporaries and a lot better to drive than most. A Series 1 Escort RS Turbo is about the same money, MK1 Golf GTI's aren't far behind, a nice E30 325i sport is the same sort money. The AE86 flew up in price quickly around 2007 but the market has been stagnant since, maybe even dipping slightly while similar cars have now appreciated to the same sort of levels. Back then they were expensive, now they are about right.
