I picked up this E92 M3 coupe today. I remember them coming out, and have always loved the concept - an M3, with a screaming v8, and the option of a manual gearbox. Crazy stuff! And a bit like my SLK55, peak german silliness when it came to their cars.I had always assumed they were too risky. Then PHer TyrannosauRoss Lex came along, and he traded his trusty Lexus LS for a 4 door M3. He did the research, and while these will never be cheap to run, he highlighted that the main issues have now been identified and have known fixes with specialists. When he took the plunge, I started to think that
E90_M3Ross said: You're welcome, although username has suitably changed Sorry, I knew that! How does it drive, and how does it compare to the SLK55? The SLK is a German cartoon car. It shows that they do have a sense of humour. Putting that big engine into a tiny hairdresser car makes for a hilarious combination. The SLK woofles and parps and makes generally lovely noises while riding around on a nice chunk of torque, but can pick up its skirts when needed. People are surprised how quick the SLK is when poked (especially since the remap). But it's your friend. It will look after you.The M3 is Germany being serious. An answer to a challenge as to how best get a 3 series around the 'ring or the like. Totally different in character to the SLK. I gave it a little spanking today on an empty local bypass. It really goes, and it sounds fantastic. Not being used to it, it took me a while to be comfortable revving it out - which you need to do to access the performance (and noise). It's really quite a thing - a proper serious thing. I look forward to learning how best to drive it.I understand why people like the DCT - zipping up to that high limit with the engine screaming, it's slightly intimidating at first to have to do the whole clutch / gearchange thing. Ultimately very rewarding though, which is what I was looking for. It seems to have a good specification. Extended leather, the compass rear view mirror, rear electric blind, heated seats, folding mirrors (sorry I had to say it Ross!), split fold rear seats. Is there a VIN decoder I can use to see the full spec?

We took one to over 200k miles and other than a few stone chips it did wear its mileage incredible well. Our's was also a 525i SE Touring. Really nice car though the 525i never feels especially potent. It does the job though. Our's was starting to get very niggly by the time we moved it on. In the space of a few weeks I had to replace a starter motor, rear bags, wiper motor, a coil pack and a couple of other bits. Understandable at that mileage but it w
A little addition to the fleet this weekend in the shape of a 2010 E82 125i. I've got a couple of cars that are at extremes, a Clio that is great for track days but terrible on the road and another BMW that is lovely for road trips but I'm too precious over it to use on track days and it's not really that kind of car for me anyway. I've done a fair few trips in my mates Cayman GT4 over the last 18 months and as you'd expect it does a great job at covering both bases. We've done 5 hour drives in relative comfort and then enjoyed it round a track for 10 hours before driving home again (not all o

According to google its just passing around the dark side of the moon, drifting through the frozen vacuum of space (I ll get round to fixing that) 1000 miles into its return trip.Ancient history:Had this for about 12-13 years now, got it at around 60k, after my beloved and equally leggy 172 cup went into the back of an Elgrand HARD thanks to its lack of ABS. Got an auto 330ci shortly after too, was lovely, but horrendously rusty and crap at fitting mountain bikes in (the main passion), so ended up giving that to a mechanic mate during lockdown, over a weekend it was repainted, stripped, conver

I think it would be nice to keep this thread going, for convenience if nothing else!Congrats on the purchase, that's mega! I've been eyeing up the RS now the 599 is out of my budget, but ooft they're spenny. If the gear ratios really are that long, I believe there's a short ratio diff that can be fitted?I wish you many happy miles

I think our 1.1 with similar mileage, five gears and fuel injection was under £500, although that was nearly 10 years ago.I remain on the lookout for an AX Salsa like I learned to drive in. 3 door, 1.1 litre, 5 speed.
