I bought one of these in January as a weekend car to replace an Alfa Quadrifoglio daily driver, and in the process of building to a similar spec as this car. 996 Turbos in general remain a bargain purchase, and they don’t take much money to turn them into something really special. The best benefit is if you are comfortable to modify/use aftermarket parts, America has such a backing for this model that you can get really good parts from established firms that save you thousands against OEM. Only headache that I had was finding OEM tyre sizes as I had a puncture on one tyre. I couldn’t find a matching tyre, my specialist couldn’t either, so I ended up replacing all 4 at quite a significant cost…

I was seriously considering a 996 turbo a quite a few years ago, when a decent one was around £30k. After a ride in a modified car I knew there was hardly anywhere local that I could really use the performance. And as I don't do track days, there was wasn't much point in owning one, just to give it a brief thrash occasionally. A 2wd conversion doesn't make much sense on the road to me either.Edited by RSstuff on Wednesday 2nd September 10:21

Its utterly pointless if you think about it, extra legislation and checks for a mode of propulsion that will die out anyway in a few years.There is a ban looming for combustion engines, electric cars are getting more popular and the downsides are being ironed out.Maybe just enforce whats already there better ? Didnt people vote out of the EU due to this kind of meddling ?I wouldnt say its "pointless" doing anything because India and China dont bother, its a global thing but its mainly our local air quality and really, those countries will need to see someone else doing stuff so they perhaps re
