The Japanese knew it, they developed hybrids in the mid-90s whilst over in Europe the likes of VW were lobbying to have diesels on account of co2 levels only.My PhD was surrounding diesel emissions, particulates in particular. Even in the 70s and 80s it was known diesel emissions besides co2 were a big problem and a difficult one to solve. The modern, light duty, high speed diesel is a bit of an engineering marvel IMO. The injection systems are works of art, the control strategies are complex and the chemical factories on the tailpipe perform miracles...But we'd have been better off with port fuelled petrol engines and three way catalysts. Like those found in many hybrids.

Great thread! I love my 130i - it's a great on road package.I got a thinner BMW steering wheel which improved feel by a fair bit. Picked up a set of 17" Style 304s as I find the ride a bit tough at town speeds. Will be fitting some new tyres next week - more Assymetric 6s Next job will be the sound and a remap as mine is completely standard in that respect.It is a do-it-all car. Tracks, skidpans, road trips, school runs etc. It laps it all up and given it's an old BMW, no one pays it any attention whatsoever.
