That they're not really makes me ponder their motivation.Edited by je777 on Friday 11th September 13:58 When you say "some", can't you say who? The reason I am asking is that I don't know who you mean. To me EV fans are also ICE fans here, that's not incompatible. So who do you mean?
twynham781 said: Disagree with a chunk of this tbh.The idea that a "mundane lump pinched from a hatchback" four pot disqualifies a car from being a proper drivers car is just wrong, and the 718 and Alpine A110 are the proof of that. Both get slated by purists for dropping a six or losing some of the old cars aural drama, and both are, in the real world, sharper and more rewarding to drive fast then most of what came before them. The A110 espesh is a masterclass in what actually matters, kerb weight, chassis balance, steering feel, throttle response. Nobody gets out of one dissapointed the engine note isnt a symphony, your too busy enjoying how the thing changes direction. The 718's flat four gets the same moan (that "boxer boo boo" burble instead of the old sixs wail) but its arguably a more honest car for it, it doesnt ask you to rev it to 8000rpm on a B road just to justify itself.Which is kind of the point, the four cylinder argument treats displacement and cylinder count as a proxy for engagement when actually the thing doing the work is chassis and weight distrubution. A great four pot with the fat trimmed off can out engage a six or eight thats dragging round more mass to feed the "crescendo".On the flat six specificaly i'd push back hard, its massively overrated as THE benchmark for musical. Its a good, distinctive, slightly flat sounding engine that Porsche has marketed brilliantly into a kind of religous signifier. But stick it next to an Aston V8 (that AMG derived twin turbo lump has real bass and menace) or better, one of the NA V12's, and the flat six sounds thin and one note in comparison. The V12 in something like the Vanquish is a totally different level of noise, multi layered, builds with actual theatre, doesnt just drone at a constant pitch the way a flat six does at cruising revs. If your gonna make "aural theatre" the centrepiece of the argument for ICE over EV, the flat six is a weak flagship for that. Its good. Its not the best. Not even close

Next up, we can't go past Switzerland without hitting some passes:https://maps.app.goo.gl/UdFDabEdEW6LpAdr8We leave Bolzano and suck up single lane Italian life. There are heaps of Apple orchards as we go further up into the mountains with some funny little tractors pulling apple carts going the other direction. We laugh. Then a less funny little tractor pulling apples pulls out in front of us and proceeds to do 30kph and it's way to busy to get past him. We don't laugh. Up the top of whatever traffic clogged pass this is there's the sight we've come for. "Luigi, you gonna be in a lotta troubl

Quite like that. Seems good condition & obvious curio out of all the hatches of the time.Treat it like a mini exotic GT car rather than a Type R rival & I recckon it fits the brief.Price wise given the scarcity of these is about correct for the right enthusiast. Should get some money off as well I would argue.

You may have read my post previously about the Overland Yeti / subsequent Yeti TSI conversion which appears to have inspired a couple of PHers so far to head to Morocco, which is great! it has been awesome reading of poppopbangbang's Cayenne adventure and CA with his L405.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Well anyone that read the original thread will know that things didn't go completely to plan and ultimately we were let down by road car build quality which just isn't that suitable to the trials and tribulations of overland action (at least not at the hands of amateurs, an
