Do air filters purify air better with age?
I don't have any empirical evidence for this, but would say no for two reasons: An air filter will collect more dust, dirt, and debris until it gets so full that it starts pushing the older dust, dirt, and debris through the filter, which is what you are trying to prevent in the first place. As the air filter collects more dust, dirt, and debris, the filter element becomes more restricted causing less air to flow into the engine, hurting performance and fuel mileage. A dirty filter will not make oil dirtier faster, but as it gets so full and the dust, dirt, and debris (hereafter called "stuff") starts pushing its way into the intake tract, it will cause buildup inside the engine. The "stuff" will get into the engine combustion chamber and create excess wear on all the moving parts. There is basically no way for the "stuff" to get into the oil. Oil gets dirty usually from cleaning excess hydrocarbons off of working parts and from the oil itself breaking down due to heat and age. As far

Hello, My car is like groundhog day with Bill Murray. Every morning I drive to work 10 miles on the highway. As I hit the the red light…it sputter and stalls. I start it and no problem off we go. This is the ONLY time it stalls during the day.This is EVERY DAY lol. Now it has thrown at times a P0171 lean code doing this so I can assume this is the problem. I am thinking of buying a performance air filter for my 2001 SEAT Ibiza (6K2). The reason I'm considering this is because my stock filter needs replacing and I figured I might as well do it right the first time. Now since the stock filter sits on top of the engine I need a new place to stick my performance filter. There are some pictures on the Internet of people having performance air filters, but none seem to explain why they placed it in the place that they did. I have a MB E500 4matic 2005 model. Its coming up for service oil and filter, cabin filter, brake fluid flush and fill up according to the dealers book. How important is the brake fluid flush and fill up? and what frequency is necessary. same for cabin filter - is that for the air coming in?
