증상
파워 스티어링이 없는 차량에서 핸들을 돌릴 때 특정 위치에서 '걸리는' 현상이 발생하며 회전이 매우 어려움. 문제는 차량을 2주간 주차한 후부터 시작됨.
처리 내용
랙 앤 피니언 스티어링 방식의 특성상 스티어링 랙의 톱니가 손상되었거나 균열이 발생했을 가능성이 높음. 파워 스티어링 유무와 관계없이 발생 가능. 포트홀을 통과할 때의 충격이나 특정 각도와 속도로 연석을 충돌하면 이런 현상이 발생할 수 있음. 대부분의 경우 유닛 교체가 필요함. 랙 또는 피니언의 톱니가 손상되면 손상된 톱니 부분에 도달할 때마다 '걸리는' 느낌이 발생하며, 강제로 통과시켜야 함. 손상된 톱니 양옆의 톱니들도 점차 손상되기 시작하여 걸리는 현상이 더 심해지고 통과하기 어려워짐.
