I've always struggled to drum up much excitement for electric cars as most know, but I've often thought how one of the smaller and lighter ones could work as a decent local runabout for me though as well. As would many £2,000, 15 year old small capacity, simple petrol cars. Fiat 500 or Panda, Hyundai i10, Toyota AYGO, VW UP. Plenty to choose from up to 50k miles and under £2k with FSH. And you would probably get 50-100% of your purchase price back after 2 years. The cheapest deal I could find for 5k miles pa (including deposit / initial lease) was 370pm. Thats almost £9k over 2 years for a 'runabout'. Even at current petrol prices. 2 years of fuel (10k miles) at 40mpg is £2k. Compared to £500 on home charged electricity with a bit of public charging. Both have low tax. So cheap ice run-around £750 depreciation + £750 servicing / repairs + £2k fuel = £3,500 over 2 years. Small EV £9k + £500 electricity = £9,500.
