The hard part is cutting the fresh air and rust back to something that will take a weld. That's true, I have found the steel above the rust is pretty good and quite thick - I just needed a start somewhere! Before getting into removing too much "metal: and details such as the mounting holes for the front wings I made a basic template using some paper and pushing 10mm holes in it in the relevant locations.I have assumed each side will be slightly different - let's be honest 60's tolerances weren't all that!Using some card and a tape measure I took some measurements for the folds and a rough template for the curvature of the lower section of the A pillar. Folding the steel would be easier if I had a proper folder but the ones that are available at 400mm approximately in useable width, I have drawn up a potential folder that would have a working width of 800mm but it's over specced as I was considering folding 2-3mm aluminium but I doubt I will be doing that. What I do have is some angle iron, 8mm thick flat bar and a rubber mallet which is doing the job.The complexity of the A pillar has meant that I would need to make it in sections and weld them up. This is just a case of make a piece, jig it up on the Riley, weld them together then add another piece until it is finished.I will finish the piece off once the door is removed again and I can fettle it. The inner of the A pillar will need a te

It's down to me where she ends up and I get to learn spanners! I do wonder what she will be like when all the jobs are done! Is this Mrs Romeford or Francesca you’re now referring to? …….

Next up, we can't go past Switzerland without hitting some passes:https://maps.app.goo.gl/UdFDabEdEW6LpAdr8We leave Bolzano and suck up single lane Italian life. There are heaps of Apple orchards as we go further up into the mountains with some funny little tractors pulling apple carts going the other direction. We laugh. Then a less funny little tractor pulling apples pulls out in front of us and proceeds to do 30kph and it's way to busy to get past him. We don't laugh. Up the top of whatever traffic clogged pass this is there's the sight we've come for. "Luigi, you gonna be in a lotta troubl
