Missed KPIs, Magic Beans and a Story About ClipsPicking up where we left off last week, Francesca was successfully in the air, the fuel tank was out, and I was finally ready to get that rear subframe down.I think when something takes ages to prepare for, you naturally assume that the next stage will be relatively straightforward. You've done all the difficult groundwork, so surely things should start happening a bit more quickly?Well, apparently not.As I sit here writing this on Sunday morning, Francesca's rear subframe remains exactly where it was when I started this whole adventure. Still attached to the car. Still held in place by the same four bolts that have been holding it there for the past 31 years.If this were my day job, my boss would probably be asking some fairly pointed questions by now. The deadlines have slipped, the KPIs haven't been achieved, and the principal deliverable remains resolutely undelivered.Fortunately, the garage operates outside the corporate world, so we have the rather lovely luxury of adjusting deadlines to accommodate reality.Which is just as well, really.Before we return to the subframe, though, I should probably confess to something.Last week, I mentioned a snapped bolt in the fuel tank assembly. I had a go at drilling it out, which seemed like a reasonable idea at the time.Unfortunately, it subsequently became apparent that I'd drilled straight through the plastic housing of the fuel sender, creating a rather useful new exit for petrol and vapour.Congratulations, Mr Romford. First prize in the idiot competition. [Romeford taking a bow]Looking back, I know exactly what I should have done differently. Before reaching for the drill, I should have inspected the back of the housing to establish whether the bolt passed right through it or was retained in a blind fixing.Had I done that, I'd have realised that drilling straight through was perhaps not the best approach.Still, we are where we are.The sender housing is made from POM, or p
