wasn't the Ital an evolution of the Marina? which was basically a rebodied Oxford from the `50s? lever arm shocks, leaf springs and wheezy OHV cast iron powered FE/RWD units when the competition were running FWD, Coil springs etc etc- giving a better ride for similar money. The unions were mainly responsible for Morris' demise but the lack of progress/innovation from the design management didn't exactly help either!

The unions were mainly responsible for Morris' demise but the lack of progress/innovation from the design management didn't exactly help either! The extraordinary thing was that the Marina wasn't a rebodied Oxford (or Minor). It was a brand new platform. It would have been a significantly better-handling car if they had just dropped a modern body on the Minor or S2/S3 Oxford platform, because they handle perfectly well for a bread-and-butter car of the time. It's a classic case of BMC anarchic lunatics-running-the-asylum management - they needed a Cortina-equivalent as quickly and cheaply as possible, so it had to use major bits of the parts bin (Morris Minor front suspension and steering, Midget A-Series, MGB B-Series, Triumph Toledo gearbox and rear axle). Then they found out that the tooling for the Minor's front suspension was worn out, but by then they had collective tunnel vision about "using Minor bits to save money" and so commissioned fresh tooling for a suspension system from the 1940s. This tunnel vision was also because the idea of a modernised Minor had been kicking around at BMC since the mid-1960s, but hadn't been able to get past Issigonis and his devotees in management. The Marina project was kickstarted by incoming Leyland management (and new design and technical staff poached from Ford) after the creation of BLMC. But because the starting point was this pre-merger Minor-based idea, no one seemed to have noticed that they now had in their corporate parts bin a much more modern small saloon platform with coil springs all-round and Macpherson struts in the form of the Triumph Toledo, which was under 'development' (adaptation, more like) at the time. Except that cl

A similar mileage one sold at auction in July for £160,000, so the asking price is on the ambitious side but not extraordinary.

Where Maserati falls short is something like a suspension part on a Maserati 4200 that is nla.The availability or price of parts on a Maserati can quite rightly receive c

It was used in the Corolla GTi though.Yes I know it wasn't used in the Celica what I'm getting at is it would of upset the applecart. If it had a 4age in it. It would of been as quick, if not quicker than the Celica so why would anyone have spent double on buying a Celica every car has its place in a manufacturers line up. This was placed in the budget friendly coupe. Do you think putting the 1.6L 112bhp 4AGE engine in the Paseo would have made it quicker than the 2.0L 173bhp 3SGE engine mk6

I can't recall whether you've fitted lowering springs to the Corsa (or if the ecoFLEX model is fitted with them as standard), but aren't B8s for cars with lowering springs, whereas B6s are for standard springs?2. When various BMW guys on here fit Eibach lowering springs to their cars, they tend to fit B4S dampers as they've found B8s to be too firm.
