A friend has the drop-head version of this model, albeit the V8 petrol version. I had a brief drive in it recently, and was very impressed with the build quality and the solid feeling of the car.i have had several BMWs, currently on an E46, so I am probably a little bit biased....The 6 series is a great looking car IMHO, and one that has aged very well.

Too many is the answer haha Although I do still have the Mercs, CLS55, CLS63 and CL500. My other half got rid of her ML in favour of something smaller and ended up with an X1. I suggested trying a BMW after finding that they have an equally quality feel as she enjoyed with the Mercs she's had. The BMW phase was to scratch the itch for a V8 convertible and with the fondness of the Bangle era 6 series when I sold my Saabs I went for a 650 and very pleased I am with it! hahaDon't blame you one bit on the XJ, they are handsome cars and still very fresh looking. The 640d came about partly as I like a big barge but needed something fairly sensible for work and it does technically have 5 seats. We've owned a couple of V6 diesels but my favourite was the old I6 in my E320cdi, good on fuel and went well but sounded like a tractor. The engine in the 640 from the inside actually sounds quite good when you put your foot down but it has a surprising amount of go! donkmeister said: Not sure if remaps are still on the cards, but from my own experience of a transmission remap on a Mercedes 7G, it's more about changing the character of the car, with performance being a secondary matter. The 7G is a pretty sloppy old thing in non-AMG cars, designed for smoothness. You can work around it to some degree, but a trans remap does things like increase hydraulic pressure to speed up the shifts, changes shift points, has more aggressive downshifting. It didn't make my car faster, it just made it nice and easier to drive fast. It didn't make it any worse at wafting either, it wasn't akin to putting straight cut gears and a racing clutch into a manual car.Wi

Incredibly practical for a family of five but it was becoming costly. Last year we spent £1k on incidental repairs not including servicing etc. This year the A/C pump packed up but it also developed a timing chain rattle on cold. Frustrating as it only had 104k on it, full service history too but a timing chain replacement was an engine out job, £4k+ and even a local specialist wouldn't do the job. It was likely a tensioner but either way it sealed it's f

Been using an X1 all week, my eldests daily as he borrowed my Jaguar XJ for a trip up to Scotland.Didnt really relish the prospect as always thought it a bit of a boring lump but after a few days with it, I have to say I gelled with it.2.0 diesel Xdrive, goes ok but what impressed me was the ride and handling, was thinking would be a bit roly poly but I threw it about a bit and its amazingly competent and even, dare I say it, quite good fun. Plus its very practical and handles bumpy roads quite well.Did get me thinking that I would consider something like an X3 next, one with the 3.0 petrol, b

It has been done but I'm a stickler for keeping things original and it isn't really a car for driving quickly in anyway, I don't think. Horses for courses and all that.I had a 205 for many years (my mum actually had 6 back to back when I was a child), sold it during one of the lockdowns, often think about it still. You can't beat that tin can lightness of older French cars. I've got a 20 year old 987 S for when something needs to be taken by the scruff on the neck. That's taxed all year round too so gets a bit more action than this one does.

Even in 2.0 guise, the 306 Cabriolet isn't something you'd describe as 'quick'. With a 1.8 and 112 bhp it's probably a little slow and not very Pistonheads. But I like it for that. It's a car that you take in the scenery with, can waft along with your thoughts. That is of course unless you have a two year old who is gently reminding you on a consistent basis that she 'don't want roof down', then you're maybe not so relaxed and feeling like a bad parent as her hair adopts the windswept look. I bought this at the end of last summer, having owned possibly the nicest one of these in the world a co
