You used to actually have to be quite clever about these things back in the day with constant supply of interesting cars but these days it s not so. Anything mainstream going up? The Fiesta isn't made any more for exampleNot so much going up, but a lot of mainstream stuff is barely going down, and hasn t done for a while. I think they did go up a bit a while ago and have barely come down. Generally reliable small and medium petrol engined Japanese stuff, autos even more so. Stuff like Honda jazz, Honda CRV s etc from late 00 s to mid 10 s, before overbearing tech. Just solidly reliable, easy to maintain, simple mechanicals, but still modern and safe. They are in big demand these days, and prices reflect it, as supply and demand always works.Proper bangernomics stuff (but still perfectly useable) has nearly gone, there used to be loads of decent stuff sub 1.5k or even 1k just to run about in, very hard to find now.That is partly a hangover of covid/lockdown and global supply chain issues during that period. There were essentially large numbers of cars that would have been built during 2021/2 that simply weren't built, this means the second hand car supply is significantly lower than what we would expect 5 years later.I was shocked at how expensive used cars were when I was looking for a car for my eldest daughter as well. I don't usually shop at that end of the market, so it came as a big surprise really. One of the salesman that I had a chat with...agreed with me on that too.
