My process is generally: - 70-80 mph = coast to 60 - 50-60 mph = switch overdrive off, RPMs jump to ~3500, engine brake to 25 - 20-25 mph = shift from "D" (assuming 3rd gear here) to "L" (assuming 1st and 2nd) This gets me down to about 10 mph, and I've never seen the RPMs go anywhere close to red line. If this is your procedure, you're well within the engineering tolerances of the design. Your car is not dealing with any kind of excess load. All is well. With this assumption, I feel that switching it off to engine brake will not damage the transmission, as it's merely downshifting, which is exactly what engine braking is about. Is this correct? Yes, you are correct. This problem clearly illustrates the situation: the overdrive button just allows the transmission to select an even higher gear, primarily for increased mileage at high speeds. 2012 Jeep Compav compass I noticed a persistent squealing coming from thr front end of my car (I think the front left). It happens when I have my foot on the accelerator and over 40-45 mph. It stops when I let my foot off the gas, and only occurs under load. This alone would take me to the engine, but it responds to me turning the wheel. It gets louder when turning right and quieter when left. It also stops when I let off gas. My original thought was brakes, but I wanted to see if the community had an idea. Thanks!

2004 Camry with about 160K miles (and I hope to drive it until the kids take away my keys in a few years). For the last month or two, sometimes when I’m slowing gently almost to a stop, I get what I think is ABS activation: loudish fast pulsing sound (roughly five pulses/sec; almost a vibration) that I can feel in the brake pedal. Hi everyone! I recently bought a 2016 Tacoma SR5 2.7L 4WD with 70k mi. At idle in D or R like at a red light (idles around 550rpm) the truck vibrates. Sometimes it’s bad and shakes my head and eyes and feels like someone is kicking my seat. It tends to get worse the longer I sit at a red light. It’s worse with the brake pedal pressed, but happens a bit in drive with the parking brake on and not pushing the brake pedal. I am here with another question Civic (european version) sedan 2010 80k miles. I have a situation which s been going on for long time and it only gets worse. Couple of mechanics seen it and i trust my guy however no solution: While driving downhill if you apply brakes, the car doesnt really shake strong until you press the pedal stronger but there is loud noise and brakes dont perform well. If you press the pedal tougher it will get super loud.
