GianiCakes said: Ridiculous to go off the shelf no matter how customised. Modern road cars, and the Defender is a very good one, are too far away from military requirements.A bespoke vehicle will be better in the long run. If it can be done for London taxis then I can t see why it won t work for the military. No doubt what will be offered will be a stripped down, easy to maintain, "no frills" version. The advantage of going off the shelf is spares are easily available, production is already up and running and there is a very low risk of something going wrong, or the vehicle not working. Which,
Article obviously draws heavily on LR’s press bumpf.Only thing I can think of that the Defender has going for it in this role is that JLR might find it easier to put more of the production value in the UK vs the competition (noting that currently the defender is made in Slovakia). The architecture isn’t right, the competition are all body on frame which gives a lot more flexibility for different variants (all produce a/c and d/c pickups and an SUV on the platform except Ineos which only has d/c).The basic platform doesn’t have any edge in off-road capability, and certainly not in durability as it was designed for a different use case to the others.JLR doesn’t produce the basic engines (1hz etc) that Ford and Toyota have as options which could be useful for some scenarios. The cost of the platform must be much higher for JLR, as the cheapest defender is much more than the cheapest ranger / 70 series / Hilux.Ford and Toyota have hundreds of thousands of their vehicles working hard in the field daily across military, mining, etc. Ineos have a handful, JLR has basically none. All that real world use has been iterated into their designs.I imagine they’ll find it hard to look past the Toyota and Ford offerings. Or at least they should if they don’t want to waste even more of our money on profligate spending.

I've owned an Elise before a beautiful 111s S1 but it was so raw with the short gearing it made the Caterham feel easier for euro trips. You may have read my post previously about the Overland Yeti / subsequent Yeti TSI conversion which appears to have inspired a couple of PHers so far to head to Morocco, which is great! it has been awesome reading of poppopbangbang's Cayenne adventure and CA with his L405.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Well anyone that read the original thread will know that things didn't go completely to plan and ultimately we were let down by road car build quality which just isn't that suitable to the trials and tribulations of overland action (at least not at the hands of amateurs, an

Quite like that. Seems good condition & obvious curio out of all the hatches of the time.Treat it like a mini exotic GT car rather than a Type R rival & I recckon it fits the brief.Price wise given the scarcity of these is about correct for the right enthusiast. Should get some money off as well I would argue.
