Where does the power in an idling engine go?

In an idling engine, a few things are happening. The rotating parts of the engine (pistons, rods, crankshaft) are needed to be kept in motion, and a good deal of the energy goes into that. Another good chunk of energy is expended in the accessories (alternator, coolant pump, AC compressor, power steering pump). While many of these accessories usually aren't applying a load while idling, the water pump and alternator do, and maintaining these at operating levels is critical. Based on the engine's design, there is also a minimum RPM that the engine can remain stable at. Any lower and the internal friction of the engine overwhelms the moving parts. Finally, when the engine is put into gear, that applies a significant load to the engine. For the first time, the engine needs to fight the inertia of the transmission and the entire vehicle, so some power goes into that. For that last part, think of it this way. Hello! I have not driven my car for a month and now have this noise. It is a 2016 V Jetta and normally in great shape. The noise is in the background and sounds like something soft is rubbing against something. Power seat - Whenever vehicle is started or shut off and the seat slides forward of back, the power seat makes an annoying, obnoxious noise… I thought something was stuck in the track but now I think it’s the motor going out. Guy at the local dealership said it just needed grease. He appears to be incorrect. Any thoughts? Thoughts?

A buddy and I were trying to replace his right front wheel hub, on his 2008 Chevy Impala LTZ. He described the engine size as 3900, I would think that means 3.9 liter, although I didn’t know there is a 3.9, I only know of the 3.8 liter and 3,1 Liter. One of the mounting bolts is so tight that the socket would not keep a grip on the bolt head, no matter how hard we tried to force the socket onto the bolt head. We had tapped on it as best we could with a hammer and metal rod, we heated the area with a torch, no luck. Of course, very little access to this bolt head, so impossible to use an impact
