Those people are the last few percent, some of whom will swtich in the 2030s/40s/50s. craigjm said: One thing that has not been accounted for is the slowing of licence holders in the younger age group. Interesting to see how that, automation and changing demographics and behaviours impacts on that headline figure of 36m cars. Riiiight, no-one has thought of that at all... All it means is the UK car fleet will reduce in size and thus EVs will hit 50% o
Hoofy said: I am guessing with no proof except from my own personal experience that there will be a greater adoption of hybrids and especially PHEVs first. You get all of the benefits of EVs with none of the downsides. Yes, yes, I'm sure every EV fanboy reading this is shouting at the screen, "THERE ARE NO DOWNSIDES TO EVS, THEY'RE AMAZING, THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!!!" (at least that's the attitude I've experienced on FB) but EVs aren't right for everyone including myself, and I much prefer a PHEV. You get the EV and economy when you can be arsed to plug it in, plan, deal with a terrible app... and you get the petrol when you have better things to do than plan your journey, learn how to manage your specific model more efficiently to increase the range by 1 mile, learn the intricacies of an app to save an extra 3p a day, etc.I've been driving my PHEV since about April, and only this month figured out how to drive it optimally. Of course, the heatwaves hit and I realised that I hadn't been driving it quite as optimally so had to experiment even more to eke out another 5% of range. And then I just drove it in hybrid mode for a week to see what would happen if I didn't charge it. It was like I could focus on the enjoyment of driving without hypermiling every move. Edit: I mean, I know I can just drive it in EV mode and not worry about wasting 10% of the range because I've got a 400 mile range petrol backup, but I just can't bring myself to waste it. I think that's my perfectionism and tightwad mindset being challenged. Like I said, proper EVs are just not for me. Maybe as a weekend car but not as a daily. Which I guess is missing the whole point of EVs.Edited by Hoofy on Friday 21st August 17:11 Ermmm, 90% of the time I'm driving my EV with no regard for efficiency. Very few days where I am going to do enough miles to even think about range. And on those few days, I usually still boot it as much as I can because it's enjoyable and the time saved outweighs the
