The latest ones also do a basic emissions related scan and can flag DPF delete and EGR function etc. And if the OBD port isn't available for some reason?We can use the rev counter and there is a probe we can stick down the dip stick tube for oil temp, not bad on petrol but on diesels the smoke head can struggle to 'see' the smoke emitted from the tail pipe no matter how much you rev and hold the engine on the limiter and it can get all a bit brutal on the engine. It is not unknown for some testers rushing to stick the probe down the tube with the engine running to save time, until the crank grabs it .....
