증상
4WD SUV 후미에 Firestone Coil Rite 에어 헬퍼 스프링을 장착할 예정인데, 작업 완료 후 휠 얼라인먼트가 필요한지 확인 필요. 업체마다 의견이 다름 (필요하다는 업체, 불필요하다는 업체).
처리 내용
서스펜션 기하학 구조를 변경하는 모든 작업(쇼크, 스프링, 타이로드 등)은 완료 후 얼라인먼트를 실시해야 함. 신규 스프링은 일반적으로 캠버(타이어가 차체 쪽으로 기울어진 각도)를 변경하므로 얼라인먼트 미실시 시 타이어 수명 단축. 헬퍼 스프링의 경우 기존 스프링 내부에 장착되므로, 장착 후 차량 높이가 동일한지 여부가 중요함. 높이 변화 없으면 얼라인먼트 생략 가능하나, 스프링이 경화되면 압축량 감소로 트럭 높이가 높아져 캠버 변경 발생 가능. 얼라인먼트 비용($75 정도)이 스프링 킷 가격 대비 저렴하므로 실시 권장. 동시에 다른 작업도 진행 중이면 얼라인먼트 할인 혜택 받을 수 있음.

2006 마즈다 5 세단의 앞 타이어가 주행 중 휠하우스에 닿음. 정차 중에는 충분한 공간이 있음. 4,200km 전 새 타이어 4개 장착. 운전석 타이어는 측면이 조금 문질렸고 상단부가 스트럿 브래킷에 닿아 선반처럼 깎여서 펑크 발생. 조수석 타이어는 상단부가 닿아서 금속 코드가 보일 정도로 손상. 구타이어와 신타이어 크기 동일.
