I often let people out and am often let out, it helps the road flow better.I prefer the longer form of,Courtesy causes confusion (which) causes crashesI’ll avoid courtesy where the situation is already confused or fluid (e.g. In town, Letting someone out when there’s mixtures of Motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians) - Coming to an abrupt or even gentle halt and allowing someone to go is often met by urgency on their part to accept the courtesy:- They wave their gratitudes and emerge into the rest of the traffic that was not aware.Rather than overtly letting someone go, I’ll instead just give them a large amount of space - It is occasionally met by slight confusion on their part if they’re not clocked in, but that hesitance is giving them time to read the rest of the road and act accordingly.Especially valuable in that you only have the information they’ve given through their positioning, indications etc:- It could be that they are making a standard turn into or from a junction, or they are stopping to drop someone off, make a U Turn etc.Similarly, if someone lets me out, I will make a distinct effort to avoid urgency and make my own decisions on whether or not I’m going.
