처리 내용
일반적으로 새 타이어의 외경이 기존 타이어와 유사할 때 문제가 가장 적습니다. 더 큰 휠로 변경할 때는 더 낮은 편평비(扁平比)의 타이어를 선택해야 합니다. 타이어 사이즈 계산기를 사용하여 적절한 조합을 찾을 수 있습니다. 새 타이어의 외경이 기존 타이어보다 훨씬 크면, 동일한 RPM에서 속도가 높아지고, 속도계 읽음값이 부정확해지며(낮게 표시됨), 가속력이 떨어집니다. 또한 휠이 차체와 간섭할 수 있습니다. 낮은 편평비 타이어를 사용하면 승차감이 다소 저하되지만(타이어가 범프를 잘 흡수하지 못함), 핸들링은 개선됩니다(더 뻣뻣한 타이어는 림의 옆쪽 움직임을 줄여줍니다). 더 큰 휠은 비스프링 무게(unsprung weight)를 증가시킬 수 있어 작은 범프에서의 승차감이 저하될 수 있습니다. 이로 인해 쇼크 업소버에 약간의 스트레스가 가해질 수 있지만 크지는 않습니다. 쇼크 업소버는 최대 무게 범위로 설계되어 있습니다.

2006 마즈다 5 세단의 앞 타이어가 주행 중 휠하우스에 닿음. 정차 중에는 충분한 공간이 있음. 4,200km 전 새 타이어 4개 장착. 운전석 타이어는 측면이 조금 문질렸고 상단부가 스트럿 브래킷에 닿아 선반처럼 깎여서 펑크 발생. 조수석 타이어는 상단부가 닿아서 금속 코드가 보일 정도로 손상. 구타이어와 신타이어 크기 동일.
