In a sea of Cortina s, Austin Cambridges, and Vauxhall Vivas, the Capri, particularly the 3000 GT offered serious performance for sensible money. It s no surprise that by 1986, 15 years and almost 1.9 million cars sold (so poor NOT!) they were a bit long in the tooth. All the similar Coupes disappeared around that time as the market trend moved to hot hatches, just like the market jumped at people movers like the Espace, Galaxy, Picasso etc they have now all gone to be replaced by the

Fitting a LSD made the world of difference to the traction, and the handling as well. Peak standard V6 Capri was the 85/86 Injection Special with LSD fitted as standard, in my opinion, especially with the Ford approved Turbo Technics 200 conversion. Just don't turn the boost up to 10lbs and expect it to last long . The 280 does look good with the 15" wheels and full leather interior, but the low profile P7 tyres seemed to make the ride quite harsh. Today it seems people would rather pay a lot more money for an RS2000, or even a replica often built on a 1100 shell, which doesn't make much sense to me.I replaced my MK Escort RS2000 with a 4 speed 2.8i Capri that was way faster in a straight line then the RS2000 (or a stock 3 litre Capri) but on a twisty back road you could take liberties with the RS2000 that would have put any Capri in a hedge! When I destroyed the diff in my second 4 speed 2.8i I got it rebuilt by someone who took Fords drag racing. He reckoned the LSD in the Special was way more robust than mine but the 4 speed box was tougher than the later 5 speed.People still pay more for a MK1 Lotus Cortina than an RS2000 despite it being slower - but nostalgia has never been cheap!Personally I'd have liked 15" wheels on my 2.8s so they could have bigger front brakes, which they really needed.

Quite like that. Seems good condition & obvious curio out of all the hatches of the time.Treat it like a mini exotic GT car rather than a Type R rival & I recckon it fits the brief.Price wise given the scarcity of these is about correct for the right enthusiast. Should get some money off as well I would argue.

You may have read my post previously about the Overland Yeti / subsequent Yeti TSI conversion which appears to have inspired a couple of PHers so far to head to Morocco, which is great! it has been awesome reading of poppopbangbang's Cayenne adventure and CA with his L405.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Well anyone that read the original thread will know that things didn't go completely to plan and ultimately we were let down by road car build quality which just isn't that suitable to the trials and tribulations of overland action (at least not at the hands of amateurs, an
