증상
회생 제동(regenerative braking)이란 무엇이고 왜 일반 차량에서 사용하지 않는가?

요약: 우리는 이미 사용하고 있다. 단지 비용이 비쌀 뿐이다. 전기 모터와 내연기관의 주요 차이점은 전기 시스템이 에너지를 포집하고 저장하기가 훨씬 더 편리하다는 것이다(예: 배터리). 제동 중 휠에서 유도 전류를 생성하고 그 전류를 배터리로 보내면 낭비될 에너지를 회수할 수 있다. 내연기관의 경우 초과 에너지를 저장하기가 훨씬 더 어렵다. 예를 들어 제동으로 가솔린을 더 생성할 수는 없다. 하지만 KERS(운동 에너지 회수 시스템) 같은 장치를 사용하여 운동 에너지를 보존하는 것은 가능하다. 이는 제동 에너지를 사용하여 플라이휠을 회전시킨다. 그 플라이휠은 필요할 때 추가 추진력으로 사용될 수 있다. 안타깝게도 KERS 장치는 비용이 많이 들고 추가 엔지니어링이 필요하다(회전하는 플라이휠을 실제로 자동차를 앞으로 밀어내는 방식으로 어떻게 연결할 것인가?). 또한 일반적이지 않아서 규모의 경제 이점을 누리지 못한다.
