What's insurance like on these? I need something cheap to run for my 17 year old.

Having owned a few C's (still have my first), including a Combo C van, and my dad had a Corsa D 1.0, and as a valeter I've come across several Corsas, Fiestas, Polos, Kias etc.The main reason people don't like Corsas is nothing more than badge snobbery. A Polo is less reliable, and the interior falls to bits if you look at it funny. The Fiesta is barely any different. The Corsas of the same age are always standing the test of time better than equivalent contemporaries, despite the abuse they get because people think they're disposable. They even have better rustproofing than Polos and Fiestas. Their engines though mostly underpowered are no better or worse than anything else. The timing chains will rattle if you don't change the oil, and there's a couple of cheap sensors that fail every few years.My main complaint with the Corsa D vs the old C is that it's too heavy, and all the engines are the same. 58hp from the 1.0litre is barely acceptable in a corsa C that weighs 900kg. The D is closer to 1100kg. The trade off is the D rides better and is quieter. Weight is the main problem though. If you can find ways to remove it, you'll find the mpg improves (though it's more noticeable in petrol models). My old Combo with the same 1.3D was heavily affected by tyre pressures, though you've already got that covered. The other things that made a difference were aero, and heat. Winter made fuel economy worse, to the point that I covered half the radiator with a sheet of cardboard in my combo so it'd get up to temp quicker, and that improved mpg during colder months. If there isn't an undertray for the engine, that's also worth making, to smooth other airflow under the car. The more of the underside you can smooth out, the better. Other than that, it's driving style. Don't brake for speed limit changes, just engine brake instead, etc. Using V Power diesel also improved fuel economy. The combo averaged 58mpg when the official rating was something like 52.A Corsa is a fine car, so
