I have been a relatively passive participant in PH over the years but I often find myself at odds with others in relation to my car choices. So, originally, let’s say 30 years ago, I was met with abject ridicule for buying a Honda NSX instead of a new Porsche Boxster. I still have an NSX. Moving on a couple of decades I bought a BMW i8. While I rarely dared to poke my head above the parapet here with that one, this usually elicits moderate trolling of the “it should at least have a B58 six instead of a baby triple” variety. Well yes maybe but it wasn’t designed to do that. You wait. I am hopin
Thanks for the compliments. I have to say I don’t get many derogatory comments about the NSX nowadays. It’s always incredibly positive. And it’s a delight to drive and be in. The i8 remains an oddity but it also nailed its brief perfectly. Which was of course deliver 911 levels of performance (albeit in that slightly off BMW way) by doing something different with propulsion. The i8 is also lovely to be in and so easy to drive - width aside. The Z8 is being delivered in ten days. I haven’t actually driven one - I can hear the OMGs straight away. But I fully expect it to be like a slightly larger version of my E89 Z4. In other words a bit of a barge and a woffly GT not a road racer. Not a great handler in other words but I was reassured by Harry Metcalfe saying recently in one of his vlogs that it was a lot better than he remembered it! Given that I am well past the yard arm (but not yet in the ground) this sort of meandering around at 6/10ths is perfect for me. I expect to like it and LH drive hopefully won’t bother me as it will be driven nearly always in Spain. To respond to InitialDave I understand that BMW said they would keep spares going for 50 years. Engine/gearbox apart it’s quite bespoke to z8 so they need to really. Some parts have been difficult to source but I have just bought quite a few trim parts off the shelf (in Germany) so things are available just pricey. And those that aren’t, the Z8 Club badgers BMW Heritage into making more…..

In a multi story that I was using earlier this evening, the MOT ran out in May 24. I do find the car park ones odd, I've seen other seemingly abandoned cars in other car parks, I'd love to know the reasons.

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
