Local dealer matched DtD.According to the BoE inflation calculator, that's a shade under 40 grand today.

The interior of the 8.5 is improved on the Mk8 and the screen is clear, easy to read in a good position at around eye level, fast responding. The rest of the interior is ok particularly if you upgrade to leather and the real carbon fibre trims. Clearly to some on Pistonheads, it is a shock to find new cars cost more than £10 k perhaps they need to get out more. Edited by Mahalo on Sunday 7th June 11:43 It costs £56k and it's 'OK'...? Okay.Perfect if you want your car to look like your office, I guess. Each to their own.I stated that the rest of the interior is ok particularly if you upgraded to leather upholstery and real carbon fibre trim. I personally would not go for the standard interior with the patterned upholstery but others might. The first RHD Golf GTI to hit these shores in 1979 cost around £5k.At today’s prices that would be about £42k, factoring in GBP depreciation would inflate the price more and VW has no doubt added a Ltd Edition premium to get to £56k. Do I think it is good value - nope but which new cars are these days. housemouse said: Mahalo said: For the luddites on Pistonheads (of which there are many) in 2026 cars like most things in life have digital interfaces with touch screens. There's nothing Luddite about pointing out that the screen on this thing is poorly integrated. Contrary to the idea that some people aren't keeping up with digital tech, the reality is that you haven't twigged how passé this tacked on crap already is.Where in my phrase that you have quoted, do I say that disliking the way the screen is positioned is Luddite? Time and time again on Pistonheads posters comment about touch screens and digital interfaces and how it would all be better if we went back to analogue dials and buttons. Do I think that the screen in the VW Golf 8.5 is the greatest de

housemouse said: Somewhat tangential, but christ that main infotainement screen is awful. How did we get to the point that something like that is put into production by a major brand like VW?I realise it's not entirely exceptional. But history won't be kind to this era of taken-on tablets. They'll look incredibly dated and tacky once the fashion passes. It's not fashion, it's just cheap and lazy cost cutting on the part of VW (and most other brands). I can't believe anyone wants that crap in their car. I'm going to be in trouble when I need to replace the family bus unless I can find something

What is with this trope of slating the Mk8 Golfs interior? My wife has had a Mk8 now has a Mk8.5 - the 8 was pretty poor, but the 8.5 actually has a very lovely interior for the class and the infotainment is nice to use. Just seems like lazy journalism.. I’m almost certain PH have praised the exact same infotainment on other reviews.

In a multi story that I was using earlier this evening, the MOT ran out in May 24. I do find the car park ones odd, I've seen other seemingly abandoned cars in other car parks, I'd love to know the reasons.

A somewhat unbalanced duo which is acknowledged from the start in this head to head. I would never put these two on the same page and i found myself unpicking the Porsche rather than comparing it to the Morgan. Despite the indifferences the 911 wins out.

I got the make and basic model in three - not Cardle's answer though. Ironically I intended to type in Challenger but ended up typing Charger for some reason - so I got it right by default!

If its styling fuses a little 6GT with a little 720S, I can't see it going far wrong.Building an SUV is a sad but perhaps necessary evil. Performance manufacturers should really look at a different set of priorities to luxury marques. A McLaren, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, or even Bentley SUV should be something that could conceivably win a race. Make the body low and wide, and if it has to be jacked up, make it jacked up for sand dunes and mud pits, not Kensington kerbs and speedbumps. Most importantly, make it weigh less! Else there's no S about it, it's just a big fat squishy UV.
