Chapter 20 : 40th Anniversary European Meet 2026Here we go folks; the European road trip. Fingers crossed!Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1986, 2026 marks a 40th anniversary for the Volvo 480.To mark this special event, a group of highly dedicated organisers planned a European meet.Over 200 cars subscribed from all over Europe...I must admit I was sceptical at that enrolment list. Not against the good people, just the cars getting there! Time would tell. This event was certainly not to be missed and a fitting conclusion to my 480 journey over the last 10 years.Trip PreparationMisfireParked up SORN November '25 just fine. Pulled out the garage April '26 with a misfire. Go figure... Thankfully a new set of plugs cured that.Whilst that sounds easy, NGK have discontinued the ZGR5B...You now have to go on a bit of a hunting mission with "new old stock"...When even service items are becoming rare you know you have an uphill battle. Why it needed new plugs from hibernation is anyone's guess. My best theory is that in November 2023 I drove the car home from the paint shop with a misfire. They had sooted the plugs from all the workshop shunting. I did what my college lecturer and apprenticeship master told me never to do... cleaned them with a wire brush. Upon cleaning I promised myself to get a new set. Yeah that new set never happened... Fuel LeakBooked my MoT for 2026 and headed to Peterborough. There's a petrol station next to my MoT garage and with Germany coming up, I decided - for the first time - to brim the tank. The nozzle clicked off and I drove next door into the MoT bay. Big mistake.Jacking the rear axle up (and the resultant vehicle angle) created a waterfall of petrol overflowing the sides of the tank from above. This promptly flooded the MoT bay ...seriously a no smoking event!Drove home tail between my legs for such an embarrassing event and did what I love doing - repeatedly removing this bloody interior...My suspicion was the fuel sender given the lea

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
