The employer may save Class 1 National Insurance on the salary sacrificed, but also has to pay Class 1A National Insurance on the taxable car benefit.What's wrong with someone saying they'd prefer a car lease payment from their employer instead of the equivalent salary payment? The benefit is still taxed under the BIK rules. Your boat and holiday examples are equally incorrect. Putting personal expenditure through a company doesn't magically make it tax free. Quite why you think a receptionist should be treated differently from a company director should they choose to receive part of their remuneration in the form of a car and pay the appropriate tax on it, is a bizarre hill to die on.
