Each to their own, do whatever makes you happy.I ve leased 6 new cars since 2012 and yesterday I worked out the cost of having them, just out of curiosity : £115kI ve probably spent a similar amount on holidays over the years as well, which I also have nothing to show for except the enjoyment, experiences and memories.Don t under estimate the power of this - you only live once !£115k over 14 years is about £630 a month in payments. Maybe a car around the £50k mark today, but of course that amount leased a lot more metal 10+ years ago. Lets work that back and assume a generally rising RRP from about £50k in 2012 to £65k at the last change to give a monthly payment that would average out to about £630.6 cars in 14 years means changing about every 2-3 years. If we're being exceedingly generous and assume that each car only loses about 35% of its list price in that time, then depreciation has already cost you about £125k.Plus you have to add in the RFL that you'd need to pay that you don't with a lease. Let's say about £4k over the period. You're £19k down in even this very unrealistic scenario. It's not looking very good.Of course, if a car depreciates more than that (around 50% retained value at three years is considered good, 60% is exceptional) or you have a knock and the value is reduced because of the accident history then it's your risk and the numbers start to look a lot worse. All for the privilege of "owning" something.I'm not saying leasing is universally better than buying - of course it's not - and this pattern of changing cars is never going to be cheap, but it doesn't seem that leasing was the worst choice here. The £115k includes all tax, so VED and also insurance, servicing and tyres.I started with a £22k BMW 118i in 2012, currently have an £80k BMW iX, and just ordered a

There is, however, a glaring flaw: all that work and no apostrophe! How did nobody notice? At least the magazine article in the auction listing got it right!

My Golf R cost me over 20p a mile (2015 fuel prices)Some of the fuel saving money goes into getting a better / more costly car, the rest goes on other things. The other point to makeIn 2012 the £22k BMW 1 Series cost me £430 per month. In 2026 the £70k Polestar 4 Dual Mot

BMW M3
So for those of you that followed my short ownership of an E92 M3, it didn’t end well! Car ended up with bore score following suspected injector failure so I punted it on for a small loss to someone who will rebuild the engine. With the news that I will be taking my first step onto the property ladder, I decided I had to be slightly more sensible with what came next, as it will likely have to be a daily driver throughout this winter and into next year whilst I get my finances sorted. I also decided I fancied another convertible, after selling an MG TF last year.Clearly I haven’t learnt the les

They said that about the DeLorean.DeLorean prices have gone up dramatically recently. Exactly my point.IMHO, the only reason the DeLorean isn't an obscure automotive footnote is because of its 'starring' role in that film.I doubt the Cybertruck will have such luck.
