SMRs are a problem as none of the ventures currently pitching their wares have any credible cost models and all are touting sales to governments and demanding that their taxpayers underwrite the private enterprise. The U.K. mostly imports oil for the purpose of refining for transportation. Slowly migrating that transportation away from oil over the next 30-40 years is logical even if some of the ways they have gone about it to date are not. Building out centralised renewables is logical as is how they're being paid for via production rather than upfront capex. If they don't produce they don't get paid. Again, everyone fully understands what happens when you pay a private enterprise upfront rather than on delivery!And if households have excess cash and want to have fun playing at being EDF with their little domestic power stations then why not encourage them as it does help smooth things out at their expense rather than the wider taxpayer. How many more economic shocks do U.K. adults need to live through caused by third world inbreds and their dick waving before they eventually realise that sucking oil producer cock might be their greatest desire in life but it's not actually normal behaviour.
