I have always been into GT cars from a simpler time but I have never started a readers cars thread before. However this new car is a bit different and I think it deserves a thread of its own to keep track of events as they unfold. My dad bought his first xjs back in the mid 90 s, it was a manual 3.6 in dark green. That car gave me my first experience of driving a large front engined, rwd GT car, and I was hooked. Sadly that 1988 car was from an era when Jaguar didnt galvanise the steel. As a daily car, kept outside and used all year round, it succumbed to the dreaded tin worm.In 2004, dad repla
GeniusOfLove said: I absolutely love these, and once sorted they're surprisingly reliable where it counts.AC might well just be gas, but that delanair system is a right pain in the arse when it decides flaps don't want to flap and so on.Most of what you've had to do is typical of an older car hardly used for a long time, you'll probably find that the more you use it the better it'll be and it may well start fixing things. Radio is only going to be a fuse or relay if it's not the unit itself, I'd recommend getting a £10 relay tester from Amazon and pulling every single relay in the car, cleaning up the legs with contact cleaner and a wire brush, testing it, and putting it back. They'll likely all have green legs and you might find an iffy one, it'll only take an hour to do them all.Adapters to go from the radio loom to standard ISO connectors are available, you can get a modern unit with Bluetooth and DAB and if you get a DAB aerial splitter from eBay that's powered from the radio it's no effort at all to get that working through the built in antenna. Edited by GeniusOfLove on Sunday 2nd August 16:18 I’ve gone through all the fuses and relays making sure they are all good and clean and working. As you say it seems to be improving as I put miles on it now. I actually have the original radio and alpine cd multi changer ready to re install. I’ve got the original 15” lattice wheels too that will be refurbed and returned to the car in time. The air con has been tasted and there is a leak in one of the pipes. Not the end of the world, but maybe in time I will do the upgrade of all air con pipes and compressor to the modern ones that are designed for the new gas. The kit is approx £800

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
