This week on "Francesca" ...breathing, drilling and more boosty goodness. Before we start I wanted to say a big thank you to all the comments and stories of your Fiat Coupes! I love hearing about your adventures and I'm pleased I can give you a bit of nostalgia back in return. It's funny, I feel like those kids that now listen to Nirvana and have found out how cool they are! Anyway, nevermind. Not quite as much garage time this week as usual, as I've spent most of it in on a work do with Mrs Romeford, but somehow Francesca has still managed to accumulate a reasonable list of small jobs. More i
Thanks Gavarnie! I think we are not a million miles away. Under the car is probably a different story. But that will be my winter to do list!Another Sunday, another week of Fiat Coupé ownership has elapsed. I think owning this car has changed me! How profound. Initially it was all about owning the car itself, having that object in my possession and living out some sort of Evo article day dream. But what I'm discovering is how I want to connect with the car. Yes, the driving experience and interaction when asking for 10/10 from the car is engaging, but I'm also finding out how much enjoyment and enrichment I'm getting from the restoration and modification ideas and actions. I suppose it's all very much down to the individual, I've always had a thing for restoring anything so I guess it was always going to manifest in that way. So what are the changes in me? Well, Francesca has given me the opportunity to try new things and start on the path of developing new skills. As someone who is middle-aged this is so refreshing as like most of you I expect we use the same skills over and over again, and modern life rewards successful and consistent outputs, rather than trying something new and probably making a pigs ear of it! So the whole journey so far as given me the chance to question what I enjoy, how do I do more of that, and if I want to be brave, what would I do next? These are questions that I have rarely asked myself to date. So, this is another good reason for you to go an buy that car you always wanted! Tell your Mrs that Romeford says Relax.First up this week was a noise from under the bonnet. I'd become increasingly aware of a distinctive mechanical whine from the engine, particularly noticeable on start-up and at lower revs, or slow driving with the window down. Naturally, having now successfully tightened several bolts during my ownership, I considered myself sufficiently qualified to diagnose this.Various possibilities were considered before I dis

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
