Adhering to PH marketing advice I thought I should stop dreaming and start driving! Sorry I seem to write long winded, let me know if it's of interest Hereโs my new baby and yes I'm happy to admit I'm in love. 911 a boyhood dream from posters on my wall but being sensible Iโve prioritised houses, kids etc however with a half century approaching next year I felt I deserved a reward.Doom scrolling through AT & PH classifieds dreaming of what I could/should aim for; list was F-Type, M4, Mustang, 718 Cayman look good value. After business doing well and realising YOLO (my best man died of the b
I've been getting to know my 997, every journey is special, the engine is epic, so instantaneous, revvy and special. Maybe one day do something with the exhaust but for now the flat 6 burble at low revs is enoughInevitably I draw comparisons to the Audi 4.2 V8 which Iโve owned 2 for a total of over 8 years and they are different characters, Audi lethargic V8 low down, peak torque 3500 rpm 302lb/ft so on a normal B road itโs surging between 3-4000 rpm, then it runs out of steam and thereโs no point going over 4500/5000 rpmInitially I was disappointed, the Porsche despite 400 kg ish lighter with 273 lb/ft at 4250 rpm it doesnโt have the daily driver torque surge. Itโs a different engine totally but the overall character with instant enthusiasm from 2000 rpm and revability is infectious. At 5000 rpm which I rarely dabble in for my own car it then surges with some variable intake magic.About 1,000 miles in now, now looking at classifieds and learning more about them itโs probably my perfect spec (3.6 deemed the revvier motor, 2 wheel drive, 3 pedals), the Bilstein/H&R combo which is popular but known for being hard is bucking/thudding below 30 mph and on a bumpy road it tramlines but then above 30 mph itโs like a track car and sublime. Iโm recalibrating corner entry speeds way above anything Iโve driven in over 30 years on the road, only on a track car Iโve felt similar confidence in. So what have I done? Very little, some in-depth cleaning the interior with a toothbrush to get some ingrained grime out. Paint and wheels will wait until the winter, I need to keep a slush fund for this and it doesnโt seem a priority. My normal wheel cleaner had limited impact on the wheels so knowing they will be dipped I spent 15 mins with a wire oven tray scourer and they came up quite well as a temporary solution. Not recommended for the long haul as it certainly scratched the surfaceSpeakers I knew were cream crackered from the start. I took the door cards off to find this!

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
