If I average 3 days per working week I suppose it's about 6k miles p.a. for the commute, and we put about about double that again on both our cars with personal mileage.

Due to massive overdevelopment of the area in the last 20 years it now takes nearly an hour by car (except on school summer holidays when it abates to half an hour). The public transport option has always taken about an hour.So, now we're looking to move house, the "proximity to work" benefit of this town has been blown away. We're considering moving to a different place with more happening, and using trains for the commute (which will take about an hour, and if I can get a seat I'll be able to do some work too).Sitting in a car on a Friday night for 90 minutes or 2 hours because of burst water mains or whatever used to boil my piss. Heading out in the morning was always fine; the log jams always happened on the way back in, especially on a Friday.In my earlier years I just wanted to get back in town to join my mates and go and have some fun. In later years I just wanted to be at home with my wife and kids.It was utterly soul destroying.
