What a wonderful trip and write up, so enjoyed that. The state of the car made me wince, I can imagine the relief once the grime was removed again
jay-kay-em said: Chapter 15 : GalleryI hope everyone has enjoyed the 14 Chapters providing a small insight into sorting out this car.784* hours in my workshop log. *This doesn't include garage setup or tidy-up each night, trips to breakers yards, internet research, time spent cross referring the parts catalogue, delivering & moving the car across East Anglia. It doesn't include 22 return trips to a paintshop literally begging for my car to be finished. Doesn't include driving all over the country collecting parts from sellers. So; has it all been worth it? Depends how much value I place in the following photographs I guess, because the motive definitely ain't financial... I make no apologies here. This should be a shakedown report. That will come, but the priority was getting out and about with the camera.Thankfully October was really mild. All those late nights in a cold garage. All the paintshop upset. Over a decade looking at sorry eBay adverts. It all gets you down and you start to question why. Quite simply, it was the opportunity to take these photos that kept me going...The individual rear seats have always been sub-zero cool... and headrest equipped too...The original Volvo colour (305 "Metallic Black") can go from the darkest of blacks......to a strong purple tint when it catches the sun...I have been using the front fog *not fog* conversion a lot. I love the look...Stereo has worked well but it has seriously compromised boot space. C'est la vie...I was so lucky to secure those rear lights all those years ago...I'm so proud of that badge. I'm the "A to B of Motoring" generation and that badge was so special back in the day. There was a huge trim level hierarchy back then. That word, in the iconic font that I love, graced very few Volvo boot lids of that era. I love the standard "Taurus" wheels. Some people fit 16" or even a 17" as an "upgrade". Can't see the point myself. It sits so well 30mm lowered and the wheel arches are designed accordingly.I love the

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
