냉각수 보조 탱크(리저버 탱크)가 없거나 손상되면 엔진이 과열될까?
처리 내용
직접적이지는 않지만 결국 그렇다. 보조 탱크의 역할은 냉각수 팽창을 허용했다가 냉각 시 라디에이터로 다시 회수하는 것이다. 탱크가 없거나 새면 라디에이터가 냉각수를 지면으로 배출하기만 하고 회수할 수 없다. 냉각 시 시스템 내로 공기가 흡입되는데, 이 공기는 냉각수 보충 후 에어 빼기를 제대로 하지 않은 것과 같은 엔진 내 핫스팟을 유발한다. 시간이 지나면서 냉각수 부족이 심해져 결국 과열된다. 유일한 해결책은 매일 운전 전 냉각수를 확인하고 보충하는 것이다. 다른 방법으로는 새 탱크를 구입할 때까지 보조 탱크의 균열을 실란트로 봉인할 수 있다. 시중에 이를 위한 실란트 제품이 많이 있다.

2014년식 Cherokee가 2023년경 정비소 방문 이후 지속적인 과열 문제 발생. 이전에는 정상 작동(210°F 이하)했으나 현재 워밍업 후 항상 210°F 이상 유지되며, 긴 언덕이나 부하 상황에서 235°F까지 급상승하여 'check gauges' 경고 표시. 시동을 끄고 후드를 열어서 다시 시동하면 세 개의 전기 팬(electric fan)이 빠르게 냉각시켜 210°F까지 급강하. 이 현상이 반복적으로 확인되고 열총(heat gun)으로도 검증됨.

I had a Dame Edna with this engine, picked it up for buttons and put about 40,000 on it and it only needed a tyre, an idler pulley, an ABS ring and a coolant return pipe. Absolutely fantastic cars - great power, good economy and I could do everything myself on the drive. Will always have a soft spot for them. Already had the uprated swirl flap bar too. Enjoy!

운전 중 갑자기 자동차가 무거워지면서 힘이 없어짐. 가스 스테이션에서 시동을 끔. 다시 시동을 걸려고 하니 크랭크는 되지만 바로 꺼짐. 2일 방치 후 돌아갔을 때 시동이 아예 안 걸리고 모터만 맴 (크랭킹음만 남). 계기판에 빨간색 냉각수 경고등이 나타남. 온도 게이지가 완전히 내려감.
