Good luck with it, sorry it's been a ball-ache.
Good thread. I have a 2006 3.2 V6, which lives with my dad who uses it for dump runs, going to his holiday place that can have challenging access in the wet, and as a general backup vehicle (my Pajero is admittedly a better "4x4" in all regards from reliability to capability to running costs, but petrol Touaregs are so worthless here in NZ that there's zero point in selling the old beast). Some of these issues seem familiar to me.1) Failing rear tailgate has happened. Looks a bit of a pig to change out the strut, so I just have a plastic bar with a square flange/end on it that I use to prop the boot open fully.2) Haven't had door lock issues but one window regulator has failed. Agreed it's all a pain with the way that you basically have to deal with riveting to fix up anything inside the door. I have the parts, and dad and me are going to work on it at some stage (it's supposed to be tail end of summer here and it hasn't stopped raining for weeks, and no space in the garage to do it).3) I have had the battery drain problem caused by the alarm. I don't have a particularly good solution to that to be honest.4) My headlights were cloudy. All I'll say is be very careful going to a 'headlight restoration shop'. I took mine as at the time I didn't have the capacity to sort it myself (due to work commitments). Somehow they managed to break both of the retaining brackets for the headlight units, and then rejected all responsibility. So the headlights are cable tied in place to reduce any wiggle that causes flickering. Must admit that even my poverty spec drives very well - probably nicer as a 'daily drive' than my Pajero that is over a decade newer. But the constant niggles are a bit tedious because everything is made more difficult to fix than it needs to be.

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
