When my boys were small I drove them about in a 156 2.0 twin spark saloon. Enough room for baby seats, Boot just big enough for the ridiculous pushchair the ex wife insisted on. Never gave an SUV a second thought.

I also chose to ferry myself and my kids around in various Volvo estates. They're what I know, what I like plus as an individual and as a family, they seemed to be filled with stuff more often than not. Then add in their safety record or at least, the perceived safety record and hence why big Volvos just worked. Right up until the point a big Volvo no longer worker and I now have a LWB Transporter... and a V70 estate that my wife runs daily.I really not bothered by the SUV hate, it seems a rather pointless argument as to be honest, very few cars make sense and most are bought with want and desire ahead of need and who cares? Do you need a 911? Do you need a 3.0 diesel? Do you need 4x4? No, probably not and really we should all be driving around in base model VW Foxes according to some because that's all most of us need. Apparently.Cyclists... I'm not pro-cyclist and whilst I ride a bike, I do it as far away from the rear wheels of a fully Laden HGV as possible but if you're choosing to ride along do close to one, you can smell the rubber or in fact if you choose to ride in heavy traffic, we'll best of luck but I think it's madness. There's also the fact of late, many cyclists hide behind law changes and seem to think that gives them an ability to become immortal. They'll preach about 1.5m minimum whilst wobbling along in front of a bus. The law protect you but I suspect many think it does... and I wonder how many of them met an untimely demise. Self preservation seems to be lacking in many. Likewise when I was a good, I didn't just walk into the road with my face stuck in my phone, Beats headphones on... obvious to the traffic. Again, putting your life in the hands of others seems mental and I bet contributes to the figures when it back fires. So selfish, probably but I went as far as refusing to let my mother take my kids out in her aging Mazda 2 which was slowing dissolving as the consequences of it being verses most things in the road, including chubby chaps on p
