Under the deal Rosebank is not tied to selling to the UK in any way. How is 78% tax levied on profits if there are no profits. Show your workings. If the U.K. taxpayer is covering over 80% of capex via 100% write down allowances and those costs are estimated to be in excess of £3bn then when would the U.K. taxpayer see a return? How does it see a return if global oil markets fall back to pre Iran levels? Please show your workings i

ITP said: Like you say though, all businesses try their best to reduce taxable profits, this is normal, I m sure it happens in all the green industries too. Including their executives salaries. Oil has always been up and down, in sometimes wild swings, in terms of price. It s always going to be hard to predict revenues over 10 plus years, look what s happened in the last 10 politically However, I would say the oil industry has been good for the exchequer over the last several decades, not just for the tax income but the ( 000 s of well paid) jobs. I m guessing many don t include that part in the calculations. Sure, oil companies have made loads too, it s a buisness. Are we now saying we (the uk) should just give it all up, even though we have the resource, unlikely many countries?Yup but the reason for it still paying money to the exchequer is that it has been in hard rundown for most of this century. There hasn't been big exploration or production capex as the basin went mature so the game has been to just run down the infrastructure, steadily lay off workers and then sell off the field to a minor while there is still enough on the table for them to make a turn. The Rosebank deal does not look at all good for taxpayers and if we take into account the genuine projections for the price of oil then it's going to be a field that makes the investors a great deal of money but not a penny for the U.K. taxpayer. Nor is it going to employ many people as away from the rigs it'll be utilising existing infrastructure and employment. The whole problem with this deal is that an army of chaos who don't know the difference between revenue and profit somehow devoutly believe that oil that doesn't belong to the UK does belong to the U.K., that the oil that has long since been extracted hasn't been extracted, that they will be as rich as a Norwegian despite knowing they've were given the money already. People of the clay who in the main think they're a real deck from Alabama
