Is that a mileage consideration or just a good oil choice please?Yup; as designated by BMW - a lot of owners move to 5W50 and have found that to work very well too - exactly what I run in my 540iPlease don't take this the wrong way as I don't mean to be antagonistic...I'm always curious as to where the traction comes from with things like this.i.e. I'd wager you could put a lot of different weights of oil in many engines outside of original specification and never notice a

I'd be interested how you get on as with a bit of light trundling after a 10 minute idle from startup mine is currently recording 13mpg :OA far cry from the 25 it used to manage in regular use.I'm also embarassed to say that in the 18 years I've owned mine I've never taken the plenum cover off and had a look in there. Can someone please offer him a slap upside back o'thed I can't offer a proper excuse.I'll go and have a look this weekend.Loosely on the same subject though can the OP confirm if the valley pipe has been replaced?Mine emptied its coolant while parked for an extended period (sorry Dan!) last summer. The pipe was apparently a bit rough but passable but there are rubber hoses at each end and one of these had expired. They would've been original from 2001.Haha Re the valley pipe - think there's an extendable one that you can buy that slides into the original one and seals again at each end; but I think doing it properly with the genuine ones is the best way (another one of Sreten's fixes)I'll be looking to get the engine on my 540i overhauled in the near future, that will be one of the jobs

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
