Oddly enough I haven't driven the new 718 EV so my comments are based on the US version of the Model 3 Performance...The steering is perhaps the best thing about the 996 and the steering of the M3P is not as good. It is however better than many modern cars. It is precise and not numb, but it is not the wriggling delight of an empty 996 with an aggressive alignment. The engine of the 996 is increasingly enthusiastic at higher revs and it does wail nicely but saying it's `increasingly enthusiastic' is the just another way of saying it lacks torque at low engine speeds. SE2 said: kambites said: I think that's rather the point isn't it? As a means of transport, for most people, most of the time, an electric drivetrain is simply "better"... but simplicity and efficiency aren't... well, they're not very interesting. For me the difference between an ICE, especially a crude classic ICE, and an EV is much the same as the difference between a steam train and a modern diesel-electric locomotive. The steam train is utterly ridiculous from a practical standpoint and I wouldn't want to rely on one to get me to work; but given the chance to have a go at driving one, it would be the steam train every time!Realistically, we will never have another ICE family car, but I still can't see myself ever choosing an EV as a toy. Although having said that, I can't see myself ever choosing a modern ICE car as a toy either. Edited by kambites on Friday 25th September 22:38 And this is the future people in general should embrace - EVs for transport. The very best of internal combination (at all price points) for the dedicated hobbyist. Or just have ICE for both as we do perhaps? No need for EV at all really for me, and you don't have to embrace the modern way in my eyes if you don't want to(while you still can anyway).

A somewhat unbalanced duo which is acknowledged from the start in this head to head. I would never put these two on the same page and i found myself unpicking the Porsche rather than comparing it to the Morgan. Despite the indifferences the 911 wins out.

If its styling fuses a little 6GT with a little 720S, I can't see it going far wrong.Building an SUV is a sad but perhaps necessary evil. Performance manufacturers should really look at a different set of priorities to luxury marques. A McLaren, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, or even Bentley SUV should be something that could conceivably win a race. Make the body low and wide, and if it has to be jacked up, make it jacked up for sand dunes and mud pits, not Kensington kerbs and speedbumps. Most importantly, make it weigh less! Else there's no S about it, it's just a big fat squishy UV.

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s
