Guvernator said: I had a black with gold wheels Type R about 20 odd years ago and I still miss it to this day. Incredible cars made during a time when the Japanese manufacturers were in fantastic form. Lightweight, well balanced, great dimensions and compliant suspension meant it was the ultimate B road weapon. That engine, while it does have it's issues is an absolute gem if looked after properly. Imagine a turbocharged engine that revs like a vtech to 8250rpm! Short ratios also meant it was easy to keep it on the boil and that warble sound is unmistakeable.Congrats Ben, great purchase. Watch out for that DCCD though, unlike most Impreza's which tend to understeer, the Type R is a lot more tail happy and will swap ends if badly provoked, ask me how I know!You're not wrong about that last bit! I was lucky enough to do a rally in a very late Group N Impreza hatch and I couldn't believe how tail-happy it was. It wanted to be sideways ALL the time.

If its styling fuses a little 6GT with a little 720S, I can't see it going far wrong.Building an SUV is a sad but perhaps necessary evil. Performance manufacturers should really look at a different set of priorities to luxury marques. A McLaren, Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, or even Bentley SUV should be something that could conceivably win a race. Make the body low and wide, and if it has to be jacked up, make it jacked up for sand dunes and mud pits, not Kensington kerbs and speedbumps. Most importantly, make it weigh less! Else there's no S about it, it's just a big fat squishy UV.
