Fred Smith said: I have experience of large groups on fairly narrow, long, winding, uphill single carriageways, whereby it is literally impossible to safely overtake for ages (of course many bad drivers, including dawdlers, will try, leaving tiny gaps for the cyclists and forcing their way into the middle of a big group which they can;t pass in one go)Living in Surrey I have also experienced the lycra warriors early on Sunday mornings moving in groups at a snail's pace up the Surrey Hills on the 2012 Olympic route between Newlands Corner and Box Hill, but it's their choice so I just wait until I can safely overtake. Although I only put myself through that pain until I got a moped! I was really surprised a couple of weeks ago in the Scottish Highlands just how courteous most of the locals are. A bus pulled into a lay-by to let cars past on an uphill slog and logging trucks pulled into passing places on single track roads to let cars past - it was really refreshing. Then I came home to Surrey.
