Evo Sean said: Next episode, for some reason this was a really popular one! I still haven't figured out how to YouTube properly and get consistent view numbers! when the project is finished, there is probably some mileage in doing a 2 hour long episode of the best bits of the project from beginning to end. I think people engage more if they don't have to wait 3 years for the finish. (not including project binky)
Hi everyone, back for another installment of the project. Its taken an age to get this episode made. I've been really busy with work, house stuff and a little side project which has turned out well so this little episode crawled along in the background. The story goes like this...I always knew from the start how I wanted my car to look. Tastefully modified with some aero upgrades and simple aesthetic changes to compliment what I think is already a nice looking hot hatch. I already dabbled with the styling with the bonnet louvres. I think they were a big success (and functional). The outside of the car, other than wheels, is original. That's something I'm keen to stay close to. The vast majority of mechanical work is done now, it's time to think more about those external upgrades. I've kept a close eye on some cars that run some aero packages, just mainly to see how they've done it and how they use their cars. Luckily I have a buddy up the road who runs a track Saxo and has a pretty extensive aero pack on this car so I had a good reference. He was super helpful and lent me his rear diffuser so I could mock up.A rear diffuser was always in the plan. If you remember back in episode 56 I cut out the lower section of the bumper. This was three reasons.1. I like the look of the cut bumper2. It allows a centre exit exhaust - because why not!3. I knew a diffuser would make its way some day. So with a little help from a working example I set to work making my own version of a rear diffuser. I had a few criteria to hit along the way:1. It must look cool2. It must be as close to functional as possible - bearing in mind my road bias3. It needs to be adjustable4. It must be fully removableObviously the YT episode features all the content but here's some images showing the process and where I've ended up. Still some work to do but its 95% done now. First of all a cheap wooden mock up to get an idea of mounting solutions. I didn't want to make it out of expensive ally to realise i

Writing the title made me wonder how many rear engined coupes have existed. I got 911 (obviously), some Alpines, Delorean, Fiat / Abarth versions of the 850. There must be more. But this is none of those. Its Japanese, made in the '80s and sold here in reasonable numbers. But they are now firmly in the category of 'rare but nobody gives a st'. And only a handful remain. It's a car I've had a yearning to own and got outbid on one at auction many years ago. More recently I contacted a seller on FB, we agreed a price and then he blocked me...So I broke the first rule of car buying and bought one s

I'm debating what I do with a speedo conversion. Plus point with the Lockwood is you get mph and kph whereas converting it on the CAN leaves you with mph only. Or I could just leave it in Km. I'm fairly used to doing it in my head that way around. Of course, there was an incident in the Forester where I forgot it was converted and I took it up to an indicated 100 thinking 'this feels strangely fast'
