One of your questions as stated and not answered is: What is the recommended thing to do if you need to pass through an area that's been flooded? The answer to this has nothing to do with Mechanics.SE, but I'll answer it anyway ... Bottom line: DON'T DO IT. It has nothing to do with whether your car can run through the water and survive. It has EVERYTHING to do with if you can survive. The big problem here is, you cannot see what is under the water. You cannot see if the road has been washed out. You cannot tell if it is safe to drive through, regardless of whether or not your car can even make it through it. In some areas when the area is flooded, the water may look calm, however there may be currents which can sweep your vehicle off of the roadway. When this happens, you have absolutely no control. You run the SEVERE risk of drowning in a situation such as this. This is the MAIN reason you should not drive your vehicle in a flooded area.
