Things are moving quite quickly now!Last night Neil, who has been a great support and motivator for the last year, decided to drive the Facel back to his house, a huge distance of 11 miles! Apparently, the car didn't overheat and ran reasonably well, albeit driving gently. That's the furthest it has been driven since the very early 1970s.This was the image I received on WhatsApp with the simple message 'Made it!'.Yesterday my son arrived for a visit. Time for an update again!After our trip out in the car with Neil (videos in the links above), we left it with him over the weekend to use and improve. I think he had a great time, as I received pictures of it at Silverstone and a message from his wife (who I used to work with) saying she loved it. Apparently it created plenty of attention at the petrol station as well!It wasn't all fun though. 120 miles of shake down and fettling really moved the car on.After our run out on Friday, the car appeared to be running very lean. The exhaust tips were silvery grey and the performance wasn't really where I was expecting it to be. To investigate further Neil started by removing the plugs which isn't an easy or quick task! The plug position, buried in among the exhaust manifolds might be fine on a full width Chrysler, but the engine bay on the Facel is more confined. As you can see the plugs confirmed our suspicions. Neil was also looking for evidence of any plug being 'washed' which could indicate a cracked head, but thankfully did not find any.Whilst attention was on the plugs Neil took the opportunity to run a compression check, which again was healthy.So, having confirmed there are no underlying problems, Neil checked the timing and found the engine was running retarded. Adjusting that and enriching the mixture and...bingo, the car seemed to have a new lease of life.Neil also had a look at the speedo and managed to make the odometer and trip work. He also proved that the speedo itself works without the glass in place, which isn't very useful but does indicate where the issue lies. The needle is fouling on the inside of the glass. After an hour of trial and error he still could not make the needle work in situ, so that is a specialist job still on the list. At least we know exactly what the problem is.On Monday Neil picked me up in the car and I had my first proper drive...about 12 miles, which was wonderful.Early on Wednesday morning my daughter arrived from New Zealand,
